Second European Forum Water 2006

European water experts to meet for international dialogue

The second European Forum Water (EFW) is to be held in Berlin on 3 April 2006 in conjunction with GAS+WASSER BERLIN. The objective of the event is to foster international dialogue. A large number of water experts from a variety of European countries are expected to attend. The European Forum Water is being organized by the DVGW in cooperation with MESSE BERLIN.

The programme will take account of the growing importance of water supplies in a united Europe. Presentations and discussions will cover the current situation in the gas industry from a European and national point of view, for example:

  • EU Drinking Water Directive - latest developments
  • Results of EU Drinking Water Directive implementation
  • Introduction of technical standards in southern, central and eastern Europe
  • Practical implementation of the WHO Water Safety Plan

The European Forum Water is based on the example set by the European Forum Gas, a successful series of events initiated by the DVGW, the first of which was held in Munich in 2003. People in the gas and water industries need more and more information. There are 74 million consumers in the eight countries from central and eastern Europe which have acceded to the European Union. Water and energy supplies to these consumers will need to be adapted to European standards within agreed transitional periods of four to eleven years. It is intended that the European Forum Water should support this process and gradually develop into a water industry platform for the whole of Europe.
