Europe’s energy industry needs to realign itself in the context of the potentially conflicting objectives of significant reductions in CO2 emissions on the one hand and maintaining a secure and affordable supply for people in Europe on the other hand. Almost half a billion people are affected. Intensive cross-border dialog and close cooperation between science, industry, politics and associations will be crucial for achieving the ambitious climate protection goals in the EU. The use of current findings from research and development will be essential. The expertise of the German Association for Gas and Water (DVGW) in innovative energy sources and technologies contributes significantly to shaping the energy transition.

This year’s EGATEC Conference, taking place in Hamburg on 14 - 15 June 2022, is a showcase of achievements. Organized under the auspices of the European associations MARCOGAZ and GERG and hosted by the DVGW with the support of the research network ERIG, the conference will foster networking between all those who promote climate neutrality and sustainability in gas-based energy supply through research and innovation, market-ready technologies and shaping the regulatory framework. The Chairman of the DVGW Board and President of ERIG Prof. Dr Gerald Linke emphasizes: “Energy research is of fundamental importance for the transformation of the energy industry. EGATEC 2022 will be the ideal interface between science, business and politics. It will play a key role in linking laboratory work with practical applications and will therefore be an essential event for the entire gas industry.”

Leading companies, research institutions and associations of the European gas industry use EGATEC as a platform to gain important impulses for climate protection with gas innovations. The presentations and discussions will be held in English and will be supplemented by attractive technical tours offering insights into the future hydrogen economy.
