DVGW Chairman Prof. Dr. Gerald Linke has been appointed Regional Coordinator for Europe of the International Gas Union (IGU). The decision was made at the World Gas Conference in Beijing in May. In this role, he will support the new IGU President Andrea Stegher (Italy) in strategic, political, and representative tasks in the region over the next three years.

“Despite all their similarities, global organizations such as the International Gas Union must take into account the different levels of technology and development in the regions. In my new role as Regional Coordinator Europe within the IGU, it is therefore important to network and promote European ideas and approaches to energy transformation based on new gases such as hydrogen, while also respecting the globally varying importance of natural gas, which represents a beacon of hope for combating (energy) poverty on other continents and thus offers opportunities for education and prosperity."

The International Gas Union (IGU) was founded in 1931 and is registered as an international non-profit organization in Vevey, Switzerland. The IGU's more than 150 members are associations and companies from the gas industry in 90 countries. Its mission is to promote the technical and economic development of the gas industry, which is considered a central component of a global sustainable energy system. The DVGW is a founding and full member of the IGU.
