The challenges surrounding the topic of water are becoming ever more complex and pressing: The impacts of climate change, an ageing infrastructure and the ever-increasing pollution of our water resources are major problems that we need to deal with. These and other issues pose a threat to the concept of a reliable and efficient supply of water that has been taken for granted for decades.
Our industry needs to continue to develop and collaborate to find new solutions if we want to remain fit for the future. At the same time, society needs to change its mindset, and we need new approaches to manage our precious resource – water.
The Innovation Programme Water that the DVGW initiated in 2021 provides valuable Input in this context. The DVGW is committed to ensuring the security of the supply and quality of drinking water not only in the short but also in the long term. Our research into relevant topics and the identification of possible solutions within the framework of our Programme for the Future have provided ground-breaking technical insights and relevant Background knowledge including, among other things, forecasts on future water demands and water resources availability. These have been widely spread and made a significant impact, not least thanks to the innovative knowledge formats of the Programme for the Future that have elicited great feedback from all over Germany.
