Prof Dr Gerald Linke, Chairman of the Deutsche Verein des Gas- und Wasserfaches DVGW (German Association for Gas and Water) today has been appointed Chairman of the Strategy Committee of the International Gas Union (IGU). He has been appointed to this voluntary leadership position during the constituent committee meetings conducted according to schedule in the run-up to the 27th World Gas Conference in Washington, DC, which is organised by IGU and will run until June 29, 2018.
“The international gas business very much champions the cause of climate protection and sustainability. The German gas sector can directly influence the overall strategy of the international energy sector under the aegis of the Strategy committee”, explained Gerald Linke at the sidelines of the conference.
Strategic measures to promote the “Greening of Gas”, intended to be jointly developed by international partners, are a key focus of the committee’s activities. In this context, DVGW presents its ‘Energie-Impuls’ (energy impulse) target model, which describes, on the basis of the latest technical and scientific findings, the key role gases and gas infrastructures play in decarbonising the energy supply. DVGW has conducted calculations for countries in different stages of economic development that prove by way of example that this concept is globally applicable. (Link auf Broschüre)
