Precautionary Resource Management in Drinking Water Supply

Drinking water is our primary nutrient. One of the principal duties of water researchers is, therefore, to safeguard the quality of our drinking water. Provident management of resources serves as a key instrument, as clean water resources form the basis for a high-quality drinking water supply.

Priority tasks include the identification of dangers to the quality of untreated water and approaches to minimise them as well as a comprehensive assessment of sanitary engineering questions including any water resources used.

Another priority is to minimise the effects of water resources used for agriculture. New challenges emerge from the use of new or alternative energy sources. The impact of deep geothermal applications as well as of biogas generation and of new natural gas production procedures needs to be described and evaluated.
